Current Design:

old Metrolink App UI

Assessment:

First look: simple, clean, clutter-free

Organized in single tabs

Two-page structure: Home and Utilities

Only “Buy Tickets” & “Wallets” tabs are in-app, the rest is external page

Recommendations for Improved Usability:

Direct Schedule Access: Introduce a dedicated “Schedules” link on the home screen that provides real-time train timings without redirecting to external sites.

Intuitive Navigation: Simplify the process of changing travel directions by incorporating a single-tap switch feature.

Consistent Menu Structure: Ensure that all essential features are easily accessible from the main menu, reducing the need for excessive navigation.

Eliminated Steps:

External Redirections

Condense single tabs in sub-categories as “Programs” (rewards and news), “Account” (user’s informations and tools), “Help” (other demands)

Added Steps:

Onboarding Tutorial: for first-time users

In-app Route Planning

Station live-mapping: AR view to navigate to train tracks

Live-updating Schedules: with Train Status and Service Alerts attached with schedules

Senior Assist Mode: appearance mode designed to assist seniors with simplified features and features like read-aloud, bigger fonts, and hotline button notifying the conductor/train staff
